Veterans Memorial Wall to become a Reality
-www.parsonssun.com

ERIE - A veterans memorial wall will become a reality following
approval Friday by the Neosho County Commission to contribute
to the project.

Linda Weidert attended Friday's commission meeting on behalf of
the Erie Chamber of Commerce and reported that Allen County is
the only other county she knows of that has a veterans memorial
wall on their courthouse grounds. She told the board that Allen
County donated a portion of the courthouse grounds, lighting and
maintenance.

She said the chamber would take care of adding names to the
memorial. She asked if volunteer labor could sweep it off and
clear the grass around it at reunion time.

The commissioners told her that if that were done, the volunteers
would be required to be covered by liability insurance.

County counselor Amy Stauffer said the volunteer laborers setting
the memorial in concrete could sign a liability waiver if they wish
to help.

Stauffer advised the commissioners to review and approve the
plans for the wall before it is installed, because it will be installed
on the courthouse grounds. She also advised them that the county
would be responsible for maintaining the wall because it will be
on the courthouse grounds.

The commission agreed to provide the grounds, liability
insurance, lighting and maintenance to the project.

City wide clean-up a success!

The Erie Area Chamber of Commerce would like to
thank all those who helped with the clean-up this
past Saturday. A lot was accomplished and the
weather was perfect (no snow this year!).
The Chamber plans on having another small
clean-up sometime before the reunion (to pick up
trash around town).

Erie's 'green' project to begin soon
-www.parsonssun.com

ERIE - CUSD 101 likely will begin construction of its high school in
early summer, and if all goes as planned, it will be the first "green"
school in the area that is Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) certified.

"The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and most other
organizations, have agreed that LEED, although there are other
certifying systems, is the driving accepted certification system,"
Superintendent Mike Carson said.

The intent of the USGBC is, within 10 years, to have every new
school built as a green building.
